I hope everyone is doing well working on relationships for this month of December. I believe relationships is a continued theme and area where we all must place our attention. Additionally, I felt guided to pull cards for the coming week because there is so much going on. I did a 3-card reading where the first card represents Monday and Tuesday, the second card represents Wednesday and Thursday, and the third card represents the weekend.
The first card represents Monday and Tuesday and this is important because we are beginning the final Mercury retrograde for the year on Monday, December 19, 2016 and it will last until January 8, 2017. This Christmas Mercury retrograde (as some are calling it) can be a good time for self-discovery and research. However, you also want to be on guard for challenges in communication. Beware of forked tongues during the next three weeks. Make sure when you communicate that others are hearing and understanding exactly what you mean. This time can bring on intense conversations and power struggles so try to keep a positive and light-hearted attitude so as to not be misunderstood.
Drawing from the Angel Tarot deck, the first card for Monday and Tuesday is the Three of Air. The Three of Air shows us something has caused or is causing sadness. It might be the relationships we are working on or a result of the Mercury retrograde. It could be a current situation or something that is being brought up from the past that causes distress. This card can symbolize misunderstandings, loneliness, or relationship concerns. These are all more prevalent emotions during holidays when stress pushes current relationships and the loss of loved ones can create sadness. Whatever the source, there are two ways to heal pain and sadness. One is time, and the other is forgiveness. Sometimes, it can take a long time to fully recover from a past hurt. In these instances we can continue to know that with enough time, the pain will lessen and healing will occur. If the situation requires forgiveness, this is a good opportunity to forgive and help the healing process. The picture of the two unicorns caring for and looking over the foal remind us that we do not need to go through sadness or grief alone. This is a good time to surround yourself with loved ones whether they be family, friends, or others who bring us comfort and help us to heal. Threes represent a sense of stability. There may be a sense of imbalance in the first part of the week, but know that with time, forgiveness, and love, healing can and will occur.
The second card representing Wednesday and Thursday is the Eight of Air. Wednesday, December 21 is Winter Solstice marking the shortest day and longest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. Aligned with the previous card, some refer to the Winter Solstice as the Dark Night of The Soul signaling a time for deep reflection. It is a time to reflect on and celebrate the depth of our being. If you feel you are unhappy with your current situation, the Eight of Air reminds us that we all have the seeds of greatness within us and now, during the Winter Solstice, is a very good time to nurture those seeds and bring about change. This requires a degree of self-confidence. Notice how the unicorn is breaking free from the illusion of a wall. Do not be confused by the illusion and fall into helplessness. Have confidence in the human psyche to do what needs to be done. This may require moving away from the pack and breaking free. The seven unicorns left standing in the water symbolize fear. Water is emotion and the unicorns are standing in their fear unable to break free and move on. To maintain this confidence, it is important to stay balanced with proper rest, good nutrition, and avoid overindulgence. When you are physically strong, it is easier to be emotionally or intellectually strong. The Winter Solstice is a good time to release anything that no longer serves your higher purpose. One ritualistic way to accomplish this is to write down anything that you want to release on slips of paper and burn them giving them over to a higher power. This clearing can be very freeing and can open new paths to bigger and better things in life.
Finally we come to the third card for the weekend (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). Saturday is Christmas Eve and Sunday is Christmas Day. For the weekend the card is The Empress. The Empress is a wonderful card to see for the Christmas weekend. It signifies that anything we give our loving attention to will flourish. It is a great time for prosperity and success whether it be in relationships, work, business ventures, or creative ideas. If during the Winter Solstice (Wednesday) you released what you do not want, then on Friday you are ready to manifest all that you do want. The Empress is often associated with pregnancy and birth. This can be the birth of a child or the birth of a project or creative endeavour. The weekend is a time of nurturing. Nurture yourself and those you love. The butterflies in the card represent evolution. Like the butterflies who transform themselves from caterpillars to beautiful winged creatures, so too can we evolve into our own greatness. The bear is a reminder that after periods of hibernation and rest, we too can emerge and reawaken fully awake, aware, and conscious. Finally, Archangel Gabriel is often used when there is communication or change involved. She is considered a messenger of God and her name means “strength of God.” Her trumpet is used to awaken the sleeping and have them answer the call to action.
Have a great week everyone. There is a lot happening this week so stay rested, hydrated, and spend time outdoors when you can. Enjoy time with loved ones and I will return next week with a reading for 2017.
